Being a very attractive and " the least hurtful " of all piercings, lip piercings have spread like wildfire among people of today's age. Not only being a way to express one's style definition, lip piercings are easy to get and don't take much time like in contemporary society, lip piercings are relatively common when a boy accomplished a hard task or became a man.
Lip piercings are considered both oral and facial piercings and require careful cleaning. Despite this they generally heal rapidly, thanks to the plentiful blood supply to the mouth.

1. Labret piercings :

2. Side-lip piercings :

4. Medusa piercings:
- A medusa piercing is a lip piercing placed in the philtrum - the vertical groove in the centre of the top lip. Medusa piercings are also known as philtrum piercings.

5. Snake Bites Piercing :

- Snakebites are found on the opposite sides of the lower lip and both rings and studs can be used for this type of lip piercing.

- Avoid going swimming, as chlorine, and other chemicals present in the water can result in infections.
- Do a saline soak everyday on your lip piercing with a solution prepared by mixing together one-eighth teaspoon of sea salt with one glass of warm water.
- Avoid sharing plates, cups and utensils as germs get passed on quite easily.
- Do not remove or change jewelry during the time of healing, as the hole closes quickly. If that happens, it is very painful to reinsert the jewelry.

6. Spider Bite Piercings :
- The term "spider bites piercing" refers to two lower lip piercings, placed close together on the side of the lower lip.
- Spider bite piercings can be pierced separately and allowed to heal or done at the same time.
Aftercare tips :
- As a lip piercing is a puncture wound, neosporin should never be applied on the piercing. This is because neosporin contains petroleum and is not water soluble, so if it is applied on the puncture wound, it will stay there and not wash out and thus, will not let any air pass through, which will ultimately result in an infection.
- Maintain good oral hygiene and take good dental care by brushing and flossing twice a day. Rinse with a mouthwash after brushing.
- To help with the healing process, use lavender oil as it lubricates the wound and reduces the tenderness.
